A storm stalks the shore
I push past our battened door
I made sure to tuck them in
before setting out to where we had begun
The gills break my skin
But it’s more then that, I feel a change within
As I plunge off the wharf
and I sing your name over that monstrous surf
And that picture stays with me
of your boat barely keeping you from that raging sea
I could trumpet this fact
instead I leap
You were nearly wrecked my love
You were nearly taken from what was a home to me

and avert myself from smiling at irony?
Your blunt nosed vessel tilts
Cages vault off deck
and shatter against a swell
You could only grip the helm
